If you End the War on Drugs, does the Addiction go away?

Last Updated: Monday, October 23, 2023 4:32 PM

END WAR ON DRUGS? OR END SOCIAL CARROTS?
Is the Drug War really a failure? Or is it all these SOCIAL CARROTS that keeps paying for food and shelter of these drug addicts? This failure is the same thing as the Homeless who are also drugs addicts and, who, by the way, are also given Free food and Free shelter.

It is also like the Vietnam War where the North Vietnamese were constantly re-supplied by the Chinese except these Drug Addicts are constantly re-supplied by unwitting Non-Profits, churches, Good Samaritans, and government welfare programs in the name of "Feed the Poor" when they are only "Feeding the Addictions".

NOTE: If even the best mental health services don't really work for the rich, famous and successful, why should more funding for mental health services work for the Poor and Homeless?

THAT OTHER WAR..
Wasn't Prohibition abolished in 1933? Hence, didn't the War on Drugs already end in the year 1933, eighty years ago?

Likewise, drugs (specifically alcohol) have been legally available for over 80 years and have been consumed in great quantities? Yet, what do we, America have to show for ending the war on drugs eighty (80) years ago, specifically alcohol? Are there not alcohol related crimes and deaths and generation of families and communities that have already experienced legal drugs, like alcohol, for over 80 years?

LEGALIZATION OF DRUGS = DOWNGRADING OF CRIME STATS
There are some who say that Legalization of Drugs will make violent crimes a lot less. That might be true, but the REAL PROBLEM of drug and alcohol addiction doesn't go away just because you give it a different name or reclassify the act using or selling drugs. In fact, legalization only makes it easier to get addicted. It also allows drug dealers to legal PUSH their drugs just like other vices like alcohol, cigarettes and gambling via non-stop advertising, marketing. Step-by-step, the drug dealers, with even MORE MONEY, will market and sell more drugs. Hence, the Homeless, that is, those folks who are really addicted, sky rocket. Then they become mentally ill because of years of addiction and likewise become aggressive and violent in their panhandling.

LEGALIZATION = REGULATION?
Do you really have any regulation and taxes generated when you can purchase a beer draft for only $1 dollar? Or how much alcohol taxes are generated when bars and clubs can sponsor 2 for 1 happy hour specials?

WEED DOESN'T MAKE PEOPLE VIOLENT LIKE ALCOHOL? NOT TRUE.
Marijuana might not make you violent like alcohol. But you have to look at the BIG PICTURE.

That is, when The High of Marijuana wears off, you feel Low, e.g., The Crash. That means you become irritable and very sensitive to little things. Increased aggressiveness is also what happens after The High of Marijuana wears off and is seen in "aggressive panhandling".

Moreover, what happens after you are not high and have to go to work? Or be responsible even when you are high and need to get things done in life? Life goes on 24 hours a day, seven days a week and responsibilities and problems to be solved don't just go away just because you want to get high or are high. Same can be said for alcohol.

Many alcoholics, who don't get violent from drinking alcohol, still end up losing job after job; hence the family still has many problems they argue and fight about as "responsibility" don't just go away even when some can loosen up with alcohol. The same can be said of Marijuana users.

Forgetting your problems is not the same as Fixing your problems.

END WAR ON DRUGS? .END COMPANIES OFFERING JOBS TO AMERICA.
On one hand, some want to end the war on drugs, but then expect to have good jobs for the drug addicts? Can a company even offer a quality product or service with workers on drugs? Can a company with only drug addicts compete against another company that has no drug addicts and at least show up for work?

Say if there were two sports teams. One where the players and coaches were doing drugs, smoking weed, drinking alcohol, playing the lottery every week, video poker, gambling, and partying every night. And there was another sports team studying and practicing hard, going to sleep early and not doing drugs or drinking, or wasting time gambling. Which sports team do you think will win more games over a season? Or say 10 seasons? (And which sports team would you name The Big Easy?)

And say if these were not sports teams, but entire cities? Which city do you think companies would want to set up shop in? And say if this were not cities, but entire countries? Which country in the world would you think companies would want to set up shop in?

RULE ONE:
If you want a job, the first step is to SHOW UP FOR WORK, ready to work. Drug addicts don't even show up for work, and much less, are even ready to work.

EUROPE HAS LEGALIZED DRUGS AND LOOK WHAT HAPPENED....
Aren't many countries in Europe almost bankrupt or in default? For example, Portugal legalized drugs, increased spending on rehab, attempted to provide job training for addicts, and shifted funding from police to prevention and drug treatment, yet now is bankrupt. Just look at a lot of countries in Europe that are almost in financial default from social spending to fix all the problems from their lax drug and addiction policies. In fact, the Euro will most likely break up due to member countries that can't pay their bills because the people in those countries demand more social spending for their irresponsible and addictive behavior.

WHEN WAS AMERICA GREAT?
Before the 1960's, did America need casinos, drugs, lotteries to be great? Was there a liquor store on every corner of ghetto before the 1960's? Did America constantly show beer commercials during the Superbowl and drink beer to be great before the 1960's? Did ending Prohibition make America really great?

  4. How did the Lottery, Video Poker, and Gambling help New Orleans and Louisiana financially when they
    (A) can't fix the lights and streets without new taxes and fees,
    (B) can't pay for schools building except by Federal CDBG money,
    (C) can't pay for libraries, Audubon Zoo, and streets except with new taxes,
    (D) still have the lowest paid public and private workforce in America?

If gambling helped, how can Orleans Parish have the only land based casino in Louisiana and video pokers machines in every single bar in Orleans Parish, yet can't pay for anything and THEN proposes sales tax raises like 0.25% in the French Quarter to essentially make the sales tax 10% in the French Quarter! (Plus a locally famous Garbage man had to help pay for security and equipment in the French Quarter.)

Next, if Gambling helped Louisiana, why is it 1 Billion in the Hole and the only companies that came to Louisiana got massive tax credits? Doesn't it remind you of Mississippi and its "complimentary" casino promos of free $50 passes, free buffet, free 4-night stay? Yet isn't that state is still DEAD LAST in the ranking of American states?

Wasn't the Casino supposed to bring in visitors next door to the Audubon Aquarium and Zoo?

[WAIT! Can't stick this gambling diatribe all on one large billboard! Need to work on simplifying message.]

Afghanistan....Many of it's citizens are on drugs or illiterate...just like the ghettos in America.

If Gambling Helped Orleans Parish, why the need for New Library Taxes, New Property and Security Millages, Increase French Quarter Sales Taxes, Sewerage and Water Board Fees?

If Alcohol and the Lottery helped Gas Stations Financially, where's the money for Security Guards since they get robbed all the time and the low paid sales clerks who put their the life on the line working there?

WHY DON'T GAS STATIONS and BARS, MAKE ENOUGH MONEY?
It's called Race to the Bottom business practices and pricing.
e.g. Very little profit in a $1 dollar beer, $2 dollar long necks, Two-for-One Specials, Ladies Drink Free Nite, Happy Hours Drink Special, and the list of FREEBIES goes on and on.

WHY DO CASINOS GO BANKRUPT?
Free "complimentary" casino promos of free $50 passes, Free buffets, Free 4-night stay, and Free $30 chips all to get new gamblers. Yet, new gamblers quickly quit gambling as you can lose a lot of money fast. Addicted gamblers end up broke, and the Goose that Lays the Golden Egg is cooked...no more gamblers to get money from.

And if the biggest names in gambling (see below) can go bankrupt in a city like Las Vegas, why should gambling be beneficial for the economy in another state?

IF GAMBLING ACTUALLY HELPED LAS VEGAS, WHY THE NEED TO SAVE DOWNTOWN LAS VEGAS BY AN OUTSIDER?
People think Gambling brings in a lot of money to Las Vegas. But if that's true, why does Downtown Las Vegas need saving after like decades and decades of gambling? In other words, where's the tax money to help the city of Las Vegas after all these years of gambling?

NON-GAMING REVENUE DWARFS GAMBLING REVENUE
Las Vegas Gaming Vs Non-Gaming Revenue - Business Insider

Perhaps the most important dynamic overall on the demand front is the changing composition of total Las Vegas Strip revenues over the past decade. As we show in Chart 38, historically, Las Vegas was a gaming-centric market, with 61% of revenues coming from the casino category in 1990. Today, non-gaming revenue comprises around 64% of Las Vegas' total revenue mix as a result of the market evolving over the past ten years into a more complete tourist destination with hotel, entertainment, retail, and F&B/fine dining becoming increasingly important revenue drivers.

MISSISSIPPI CASINOS: DEMOLISH, BANKRUPT, AND ONLY MAKE UP A TINY 5% of STATE BUDGET?
Judge: Caesar's Can Demolish Harrah's Casino in Mississippi - ABC News

Margaritaville Biloxi owners seek bankruptcy protection from 164 creditors | gulflive.com

Caesar's files for bankruptcy - In all, Mississippi's 30 casinos employ more than 23,000, and taxes and other collections provide roughly 5 percent of the state budget.

POINT: Employs 23,000 yet only brings in 5% of the state budget? With all the talk and action of gambling and how much money it can bring in, isn't 5% just a little more than like a cost of living increase, a statistical error, or inflation increase?

THE QUESTION:
If Gambling didn't work for Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Mississippi, Detroit, Philadelphia, St. Louis, why should it work for New Orleans?

More Questions for Homeless (who many times are drug addicts)

POINT 1: The Bible says: "If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head." - Romans 12:20 NIV

POINT 2: Yet, where in the Bible does it say, "If your enemy is 'addicted', feed the addiction"?
