Q: What's better than alcohol at a party when meeting new people?
A: Practice. That is, do you think you can say "hello", introduce yourself, and carry on a conversation without any alcohol? And also not worry about being self-conscious on everything you say?
TIP. No one is going to be perfect and your words are not going to be the life of the party 100% of the time. It's OK just to say "hello" and make small talk. Every word you say doesn't have to be "impressive". Many people just want to someone to talk to.
Note, If you ask a lawyer for advice on this "drinking" thing, please remember they are the biggest alcoholics of all professions while supposedly being experts in speaking and communications. Perhaps they are too self-conscious on everything they say as that is their profession in the first place.
